The first solar eclipse is going to occur this year on 10th June 2021. This year the solar eclipse will be annular. The annular solar eclipse is a rare and mesmerising sight and one should not miss this astronomical event. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets in the way of the sun's light and casts its shadow on Earth. In India, this solar eclipse can be partially visible starting from 1:42 pm to 6.41 pm in the evening. There will be the first solar eclipse of the year, which will take place on Amavashya of Krishna Paksha in Jyeshtha month. On this day, Vat Savitri and Shani Amavasya, leads great astrological effects in India. This year Jyeshtha Amavasya 2021 coincides with Shani Jayanti, Surya Grahan, Vat Savitri Vrat and Rohini Vrat together. This day is amavasya, is a no-moon day. This time the solar eclipse can be partially seen in the northern part of America, Europe and Asia, while there will be a total solar eclipse in Northern Canada, Greenland and Russia. There is a special yoga on this day as this day is also Shani Jayanti. Here, there is possibility of disastrous change in weather and natural calamities. This year's first solar eclipse will take place tomorrow (June 10). According to the map published by NASA, the solar eclipse will be visible in India for a few minutes before the sunset, but only from Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. In Arunachal Pradesh, people can see, just before the sunset, a minuscule fraction of the sun covered by the moon, because it is very low in the horizon, lasting at the most 3-4 minutes depending upon the position.

On this auspicious day, devotees observe Shani Jayanti on the amavasya tithi of Jyeshtha Maas. This significant day concurs with Vat Savitri Vrat celebrations in some of the North Indian states. Shani Dev, who embodies the planet Saturn, is hailed as the Lord of Justice. This is because he makes us pay for the sins committed by us during the present and the previous births. It is also said that, Shani also bestows wealth and fame. Furthermore, and interestingly, he is a devotee of Shri Krishna, and none other than Lord Shiva showers him with his blessings. Many people experience the adverse effects of Shani in the form of Sadhe Saati or Dhaiya. Vat Savitri is celebrated by Hindu women all over the country. On this day, women across India observe fast for the long lives of their husbands and pray to Vata - the Banyan tree.

Acharya Rubina Tully Malhotra has suugested some Do’s and Don’ts during the solar eclipse to avoid it’s after effect:-

  • Never Look at the Eclipse with Naked Eyes: Whether pregnant or not, you should never look at the eclipse with bare eyes as it could damage the retina

  • Stay Indoors: Pregnant women are advised to stay indoors as much as possible during a Solar eclipse

  • Avoid Using Sharp Objects: Pregnant women are advised not to use sharp objects like knives as using them is believed to cause birth defects in the baby

  • During the eclipse time, pregnant women should avoid sleeping and advised to take a bath before and after the solar eclipse.

  • A head bath should be taken after the eclipse gets over to avoid any ill-effects of the Surya Grahan.

  • Block the Sun: Avoid facing the sun's rays.

  • People are advised to avoid eating during the eclipse, but there are exceptions for old, ailing patients and pregnant women who can eat a light, sattvik meal that’s easy to digest.

  • To avoid the malefic after effects of the Solar Eclipse, clean your house as soon as the event concludes.

  • Sprinkle Gangajal everywhere, and everyone in your family should take a bath for the purification process.

  • Clean the place of worship within your home. Bathe the idols that you pray to, and once again establish them on the pedestal with new clothes.

  • If you had put aside something for donation during the Eclipse_period, then you can go ahead and do so now. Even if you did not keep anything, you could still do charity work at this time.

  • Take off the clothes that you were wearing during the Eclipse and wash them.

  • If you had added Tulsi or Kusha to beverages during the Eclipse_period, to keep them pure, then you can use them now. Otherwise, ensure that you do not drink them.

  • Chanting the Gayatri mantra or any Mahamantra of Lord Shiva will be extremely beneficial.
