LEGEND ASSOCIATED WITH ECLIPSE

SAMUNDRA MANTHAN(RAHU & KETU LEGEND)

Indian Vedic crystal gazing Panchangas consider just the obscurations obvious in the spot we live, ie, when the overshadowed beams of Sun or Moon fall on us and just the umbral shrouds are considered and the penumbral shrouds are not considered and not mentioned in the Panchangas normally.

The legend of Rahu and Ketu: According to Hindu folklore as given in Shanda Purana, quite a while in the past the Devatas (Gods) and Rakshas (Demons) beat the sea to get the Amrit, the heavenly nectar which makes one undying. At long last Dhanvantri came out with a pot of Amrit and there was a frantic scramble for it and the Devas and the Rakshas began quarreling. Henceforth, Lord Vishnu appeared as Mohini (an enchanting woman) and enchanted them into sitting in two separate columns to appropriate the Amrit. She began with the Devatas. Towards the stopping point as the Amrit was practically more than, a Rakshasa called Rahu thought about what was going on and sat toward the finish of the devatas line. Mohini poured the remainder of the Amrit in Rahu’s hands and he drank it. Sun and Moon, who was sitting close to Rahu educated Mohini that he is a rakshasa. Ruler Vishnu remove Rahu’s head with the Sudarshan Chakra and neck was isolated from his body. Anyway, as he has just devoured Amrit, he didn’t kick the bucket and henceforth the incorporeal head lives as Rahu and the headless middle lives as Ketu. The Rakshas dissented and another squabble began. At long last, a trade-off concurred and Rahu and Ketu were given the status of planets and as the Sun and the Moon detailed Rahu, on a full moon and new moon days, Rahu and Ketu were permitted to torment the Sun and Moon to have their retribution. This causes the obscurations during which time Sun and Moon lose their beams and become frail.
